I called to speak to an attorney, the paralegal said he was busy and so the paralegal started to give me advice. then he told me they can do the trademark for me after they did the search and it’s $800.00 and he said I did not have to supply any information, except for my name, is that unusual? then the paralegal asked me what age am I? do i have facebook and twitter?

I do not know if you have Facebook and Twitter. Don’t you? Why would you ask me?
If the legal assistant really furnished you legal advice, he committed a crime. Only licensed lawyers can furnish legal advice.
Yes, your question is very unusual, because it does not make a lot of sense. But yes, you can do a trademark search based just upon the name that you want to trademark. You do not need a lawyer to do a trademark search.
